Osteopathy and babies

Children and osteopathy

Understanding osteopathic treatment

Osteopathy uses gentle manual techniques to assess and enhance the body’s natural mobility and function. Our approach involves carefully testing how different parts of the body move and work together, identifying areas that may benefit from treatment. The gentle techniques we use are adapted to suit each individual’s needs and comfort level.

From what age?

Osteopathy is a gentle form of treatment suitable for people of all ages, from newborn babies to older adults. The techniques we use are specifically adapted to each stage of development, with particularly gentle approaches for babies and children. Many parents find that osteopathic treatment helps soothe and relax their babies, potentially supporting their natural development and comfort.

Is osteopathy appropriate for babies?

Yes, osteopathy can be very appropriate for babies when delivered by a qualified practitioner with specific training in paediatrics. Hannah Vassallo has completed comprehensive training in paediatric osteopathy. This specialist training means she:

– Understands the unique needs of babies and children
– Can identify normal developmental patterns
– Is qualified to perform thorough clinical assessments
– Knows when to refer to other healthcare professionals
– Can adapt her techniques appropriately for young patients

Her training enables her to screen for medical conditions, and she maintains close professional relationships with other healthcare providers. If she thinks your baby would benefit from seeing another health professional, such as your GP, health visitor, or midwife, she will explain why and help facilitate this referral.
